High Street/ Best Street Masterplan

Medway Council has prepared a draft masterplan for the High Street/ Best Street area in Chatham. When adopted the masterplan will become a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that will guide development in the High Street/ Best Street area.
Following public consultation, the masterplan will be finalised and will help inform council planning policy.

Medway Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA)
Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3) requires local authorities to produce a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) for their housing market area. This builds on previous studies and is designed to provide a more realistic and justifiable indication of capacity. It will ensure that the new planning policies within the Local Development Framework (LDF) are based on reliable evidence and are therefore deliverable.
The council has recently completed a draft Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA) of its area in order to identify sites which are suitable for development for housing, employment, retail and other uses and which could be developed by 2026.
The assessment identifies both sites regarded as suitable as well as those that have been rejected. If land is identified as having potential, this does not imply that it will be allocated for development nor be granted planning permission.

Local Development Scheme (LDS)
The Medway Local Development Scheme 2009-2012 (pdf 1,024KB) has now been approved by the Government Office for the South East (GOSE) and came into effect on Tuesday, 22 December 2009. It sets out a summary project plan that guides the preparation and review of the Local Development Framework (LDF), the long-term spatial plan for Medway.
Strood Town Centre Masterplan
The regeneration of Strood Town Centre is identified as a priority, and is essential to the future success of Medway.
Medway Council has commissioned consultants to prepare a masterplan for Strood Town Centre. The masterplan looks forward to 2026 and provides a framework to guide improvements to the town centre and new development. This will ensure that all future development works towards a shared vision for making Strood better.

Gun Wharf Masterplan
Medway Council has commissioned a team of consultants to prepare a masterplan for the Gun Wharf area of Chatham.
When adopted, the masterplan will become a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that will guide development in the Gun Wharf area.
